Best-selling author Michael G. Thompson,
Ph.D., is returning to Chatham!
Parent presentation:
"The Pressured Child: Helping Your Child Find Success in School and Life."
Monday, January 30, 2012
7:00 p.m.
Chatham High School Auditorium
"The Pressured Child" is, in fact, a presentation for "pressured parents" who have forgotten what school is actually like. It is for parents who are gripped by worries and misapprehensions about their children’s life in school. There are three kinds of children in school: 1) those whose journeys are characterized mostly by success, 2) those whose journeys are characterized by a chronic but manageable struggle, and 3) those whose journeys are characterized by fury and despair. Each journey has its own different pressures.
Dr. Thompson will be speaking to LAF and CHS students during the day, teachers after school and ending with the parent presentation at night.
Michael G. Thompson is a psychologist, school consultant, and author or co-author of eight books, including the New York Times bestseller, "Raising Cain: Protecting the Emotional Life of Boys," "Speaking of Boys: Answers to the Most-Asked Questions about Raising Sons" and "Best Friends, Worst Enemies: Understanding the Social Lives of Children." His newest book, "It’s a Boy!: Understanding Your Son’s Development from Birth to Eighteen was published by Ballantine Books in March of 2008.
A dedicated speaker and traveler, Dr. Thompson has spoken at or consulted to more than 500 schools in the U.S. and abroad. He has appeared on the Today Show, the Oprah Winfrey Show, ABC 20/20 and CBS 60 Minutes. He was the co-author, host and narrator of a two-hour PBS documentary entitled "Raising Cain: Focus on Boys" which aired in January of 2006.
