Tips of the Month

brought to you by NewBridge, a nonprofit community organization

Take a mental health self-assessment

May is Mental Health Month and a great time to remember the importance of your mental health. With the ever-increased pace of life, with added pressures to do more at home and on the job, with increased responsibility and less time to devote to ourselves - the need for a mental health self assessment is even more critical. Just like a dental cleaning or a tune-up are forms of prevention - so is taking time to think about your priorities, relationships, and overall satisfaction with life.

We all say we need to take a mental health day every once in a while. And you know what? We should! For more information on tending to your mental health, contact NewBridge Services today at 888-746-9333. Bonus: Test your mental health IQ at www.newbridge.org.

Watch for your child's emotional well-being

While it's easy to recognize that a broken bone needs medical attention, it may be a little more difficult to spot a broken ego or broken spirit - but that, too, needs special care. Spotting the signs that a person's mental health is in jeopardy is much more difficult, especially in younger children.

Tell-tale signs that your little one may be facing emotional struggles include:
bullet Changes in school performance
bullet Bad grades despite strong effort, or a sudden drop in grades
bullet Uncharacteristic hyperactivity
bullet Persistent nightmares
bullet Excessive worrying or clinginess
bullet Frequent temper tantrums

Teaching children to recognize their emotional state and arming them with the tools to manage them appropriately, is critical to their ability to have a well-adjusted and healthy lifestyle. For help ensuring your child's emotional well-being, contact NewBridge Services today at 888-746-9333 or visit www.newbridge.org.
